How To Build Campaigner Networks

SMK believes that one of the best support systems we offer is the opportunity to meet and network with other social change campaigners and activists. The Campaign Carousel is the perfect opportunity to do so.

Why We Need Campaigner Networks:

As passionate advocates, your professional life can merge into your personal life, with work following you home. The issues you work on day-in and day-out are all over your TV, social media feeds, and conversations with friends and family. Campaigning can feel draining and solitary, and those not in the social change and charity sectors seem increasingly far removed and disconnected.

One of the reasons networks for campaigners are so important is that they reinforce that you’re not alone. Others are working in the same tough space, getting frustrated and burnt out like you, but equally fueled by the sheer determination and passion they have for their cause.

How We Build Campaigner Networks:

Here’s where SMK comes in. SMK’s Campaign Carousel™ gives you as a campaigner, the space to share, learn, and even vent with peers. Four out of five Campaign Carousel riders say their networks and links with other campaigners have increased as a result of our comprehensive campaign training course.

Beyond opportunities to meet with your Campaign Carousel peers and mentors, past and present participants also organise with WhatsApp groups, our Campaign Carousel™ online brunch event, and more.

At this year’s Campaign Carousel brunch, SMK’s Campaigner of the Year Sarah Finch shared personal insights on what it’s like being a campaigner and how she achieved success.

Participants told us that it was reassuring to be in a space that acknowledges the current political environment. One said, “It was great to think about some of the challenges we face in campaigning, to find similarities across the sector and to discuss ways of overcoming them.” Participants found the brunch event to be a relatable, inspirational, and refreshing open space for honest discussion, knowledge sharing, and reflection.

So, aside from the tools and knowledge you’ll gain from being on SMK’s Campaign Carousel, we will support you in peer-to-peer learning and thinking about new collaborations. Just think of the fresh ideas these could generate!
