Deep Dive: Building narrative power to counter the far right

Building narrative power to counter the far right

Far-right actors are telling a powerful story about British society, rooted in fear, anxiety and zero-sum thinking. And right now, they’re winning the narrative battle. To regain some traction, progressive movements need to tell powerful stories of their own, rooted in values of justice, inclusion and hope.

In this deep dive, we’ll study the current narrative landscape and highlight the tools, approaches and mindsets that can help progressive campaigners tell stories that meet the moment.

Why should I join this masterclass?

Progressive communicators want to play their part in resisting far-right narratives. But many organisations are struggling to adapt to the changed media and political landscape. Our stories aren’t getting cut-through. Our tactics aren’t keeping pace with the rapidly-changing digital world. And too often the far-right is setting the terms of the debate while we scramble to respond. This masterclass will cut through the noise and anxiety, building communicators’ confidence in developing more ambitious narrative strategies.

What will this deep dive cover?

Over three hours we’ll explore:

  • Why the far-right’s narratives are taking hold, and why progressive movements are struggling to respond.
  • How to deploy narrative and framing approaches that have been proven to work to counter the far-right.
  • What practical tactics and strategies organisations need to adopt to build narrative power.
  • How progressive campaigns in the UK and abroad are already disrupting far-right narratives with innovative, values-centred approaches.
