Occasionally, a person comes along whose experience, analysis and sheer fighting passion shift the way we think about the deepest systems of power. When they do, they are a gift without equal because they create new space to imagine a different, better way of living. Selma James is one of those people.

This is a special recognition award for Campaign of the Year. It’s for a campaign that particularly excelled – not just because of what they won, but also how they won it.

Joeli Brearley started campaigning for the rights of working mums in 2015, after facing pregnancy discrimination from an employer, a children’s charity, who sacked Joeli the day after she announced she was expecting her first child.
