Inside local power: how to influence councils and mayors workshop
What is local campaigning in the UK?
Local campaigning in the UK is actions people can take to change laws and policies, support services, and behaviours at the level of councils, boroughs, and counties.
Why is local campaigning important in the UK?
It is a big moment for local power across England, as the government is moving intentionally towards a ‘devolution revolution’. More powers are being transferring out of Westminster and into the hands of local people in areas like transport, housing, and skills. It will mean that the majority of life decisions affecting ordinary people will be made by local authorities and metro Mayors.
What do I need to know about local campaigning in the UK?
Before starting your local campaign in hte UK, you’ll need to know:
- How local power works
- The processes behind decisions being made locally
- Where local decisions are made
- How to increase your campaigning impact locally
In SMK’s Understanding Local Power workshop, expert SMK Associate and Bow Councillor, Abdi Mohamed, and former Chief of Staff to the Mayor of the West Midlands, Lucy Caldicott, will teach your just that.
What will I do in SMK’s Understanding Local Power workshop?
