Campaigner

Jennifer is a campaigner with End Our Cladding Scandal, a national grassroots campaign led by volunteers who are affected by the post-Grenfell building safety crisis that has affected millions of homes across the UK. End Our Cladding Scandal was the winner of the Best Consumer Campaign at the SMK National Campaigner Awards in 2023.

Jennifer’s work with End Our Cladding Scandal includes policy and political advocacy, corporate stakeholder engagement, media and communications, as well as working directly with leaseholders who have been excluded from government support. She is a former SMK ‘Campaign Carousel’ rider.

Abdi Mohamed 

Public Affairs Manager, Scope 

Abdi’s interest and expertise is influencing policy makers and mobilising local communities on disability issues and other areas of social justice.

Abdi currently works for a large charity, having previously been parliamentary researcher and policy advisor to the Shadow Minister for Disabled People. He has also worked for the Labour Party and led an innovative community programme in east London which included setting up a local Somali Task Force. Previously Abdi was a campaigner for Action for Children and the National Union of Students (NUS). He is a governor at Bow Secondary School, a non-executive Director of Hackney Wick & Fish Island Community Development Trust, and a trustee of PohWER. Abdi co-leads SMK’s ‘Influencing Parliament and Central Government’ workshop with Jo Gibbons and Deb Hermer.

Shaista Aziz 

Campaigner and Co-Director of the Three Hijabis

Shaista is an award winning anti-racism and equalities campaigner, journalist and writer.

Shaista is a highly skilled and experienced communications and media specialist, working in crisis communications and in complex emergencies. She is a high profile campaigner and skilled political analyst, she carries out her work through the lens of Intersectionality. Her broadcast journalism and writing has appeared in international media including the New York Times, Washington Post, Aljazeera, CNN and the BBC and she is a published author. Shaista is an experienced facilitator, media trainer and regular public speaker and media commentator. Shaista is training in Transactional Analysis.

David Graham

David Graham is the founder of Changing Ideas, Law for Change and the Tenacious Awards.

Callum Pethick

Youth led Change Manager, Blagrave Trust

Callum co-leads the Trust’s strategy for investing in young people to create change.

Prior to this, Callum worked in the youth sector for several political and civic education charities. Callum also sits on the Accountability Circle for the Participatory Grantmakers Community of Practice. Callum is passionate about enabling young people facing injustice to wield their collective power to create positive change with and on behalf of their communities.

Benaifer Bhandari

CEO, Hopscotch Women’s Centre

Benaifer (pronounced ben-eye-fur) joined Hopscotch in 2018 and launched an evaluation of the organisation which led to a major strategic change to be more inclusive and accessible.

The two-year exercise culminated in a name change and governance refresh through the appointment of a new, committed, and empathetic Board of Trustees – who reflect the organisational values of being person-centred and trauma-informed.

She continues to champion the work of Hopscotch’s expert team and is now pursuing a growth strategy so that even more women and girls have a culturally appropriate safe space where Hopscotch will advocate for them.

As well as loving her work with Hopscotch, Benaifer enjoys being Chair of Voluntary Action Camden and Global Generation

She is also a Trustee with Camden Community Centres’ Consortium (C4) and Naz & Matt Foundation 

She loves her role as Chair of Camden and Islington Trauma Informed Network and being a part of The Charity Reform Group (CRG), by the Sheila McKechnie Foundation as one of a group of charity leaders committed to using their voice and influence to further the reforming role of civil society.

Camilla Eason

Campaign Manager, Which?

Camilla has been at the organisation for almost four years.

She has experience of securing change in legislation and business practice across a range of sectors, most recently as part of Which?’s work to tackle online fraud through the Online Safety Bill, and to secure free access to cash for consumers via the Freedom to Pay campaign. 

Before Which? she worked for various public affairs agencies.

Maya Mailer

Co-Director, Our Kids’ Climate and Co-Founder, Mothers Rise Up

Maya is a powerful communicator with almost 20 years of experience in campaigning, strategy, policy, and coalition building for climate and social justice.

She is focused on co-creating smart, unifying and impactful campaigns to advance a rapid and fair transition to renewable energy. Alongside her role as co-director of Our Kids’ Climate, she is co-founder of Mothers Rise Up, running some of the most creative fossil fuel finance campaigns in the climate space. She was the former Head of Humanitarian Policy and Campaigns at Oxfam, leading a team of campaign and policy experts. She has lived and worked in South Sudan and Kenya. Maya has written on the power of parent-climate organizing, including for Huffington Post, Early Childhood Matters, and Women’s Health magazine, and has done broadcast interviews for the BBC News and Sky News, among others, on parent-climate organizing. She has three football-mad children, who inspire her every single day.

Kim Megson

Head of Content and Engagement, Heatherwick Studio

Kim works for the global design practice Heatherwick Studio, helping to communicate its work through film, photography, and digital platforms.

As a contributor to the burgeoning Humanise campaign, he has creatively supported a drive for our cities to become more joyful and engaging through the design of buildings.

Kim is also a journalist, regularly covering sustainable and inclusive architecture for Metropolis. As a feature writer, he has contributed to the Economist, the Guardian, the Observer, the Independent, the BBC and Sight & Sound, covering everything from design and culture to politics and sport. He is also a Trustee of Hue Help, a charity in central Vietnam that works to improve the health, education and future prospects of disadvantaged children across the country, and which campaigns to promote water safety awareness and swimming training to combat drowning, the leading cause of death in children in Vietnam.

Suhan Rajkumar

Suhan advises charities, not-for-profits, and businesses seeking to have a positive social impact.

Suhan has a particular focus on campaigning and electoral law, and is recognised in the Legal 500 in this area. He also advises on a wide range of governance, commercial, regulatory and crisis management issues. Outside of Bates Wells, Suhan is a charity trustee, currently as Chair for Bail for Immigration Detainees and a trustee of CARAS (Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers).

Abighail Scott Paul

Abigail is an award-winning strategic communications leader who specialises in narrative change, public engagement and social impact.

With a career spanning architecture, the creative industries, urban regeneration, community development and social disadvantage, she has led major campaigns that shift attitudes and inspire change.

Abigail joined Heatherwick Studio in 2024 to lead Humanise: a new 10 year global campaign for more joyful, engaging and human buildings and cities. With a focus on research, action and boosting public debate, Abigail is working with partners and allies who have the power to make change possible.

Before joining Heatherwick Studio, Abigail was Director of External Relations and Strategic Partnerships for Leeds 2023 Year of Culture, using the arts to drive social and cultural transformation in the city. Previously, as Deputy Director of Advocacy and Public Engagement at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Abigail spearheaded campaigns that reframed the UK’s poverty debate. By blending data, storytelling and grassroots collaborations, she brought lived experiences into mainstream policy discussions, and influenced national conversations on social justice.

Fionna Smyth

Fionna is a passionate internationalist and a development and human rights professional with experience in strategic communications and advocacy.

She has delivered effective multi-channel campaigns and public engagement, resulting in significant policy change, campaign wins, and shifting public opinion; some of these campaigns won industry awards. She led the Save Human Rights Act campaign at Amnesty International UK, Stand As One at Oxfam GB, and developed Climate justice and economic justice campaign strategies at Christian Aid, which delivered a Loss and damage mechanism at COP 27. She is currently the Head of Agile campaigns at Oxfam GB.

Marcia Walker 

Campaigns Strategist 

Marcia is a campaigns strategist for social and environmental change.

She is an advocate for youth voice and climate justice, helping to build young people’s campaign confidence through participatory learning.

Marcia currently coordinates Save the Children International’s global child led campaign on climate change and inequality. Previously she worked as an evaluator for Mencap, Amnesty International UK and Global Witness. She has also worked as a global campaign strategist for the Global Call for Climate Action (GCCA) and campaigned to End Period Shame with Plan International UK.

Kate Keara Pelen

Cultural programmer, curator and creative producer

Kate has over twenty years of experience in public and community engagement across the education and culture sectors.

Currently based at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, Kate is a co-founder of UAL’s Climate Emergency Network, working at the intersections of creativity, health, ecology and social change.

Recent projects include Poetics of Care: a creative health festival, Earth Week: More-Than-Human Stories, The Observatory, Camden Schools Arts Biennale and the In Body and Mind micro-festival. Kate collaborated with SMK in 2024 to imagine the new Creative Changemakers Award category.
