ZERO Carbon Guildford aims to empower all local residents to take action on climate and nature in a way that’s meaningful to them.

The Campaign

Zero Carbon Guildford is training volunteers to engage local residents by focusing on shared values around reducing waste, protecting the countryside, and improving health. This training employs Britain Talks Climate research at the heart of the campaign.

We’re so grateful to have been nominated and shortlisted for The Best Community Climate and Nature Action award. It’s a credit to our numerous volunteers who have amassed over three thousand hours of volunteer time this year, purely to support our local environment and Guildford a better and more sustainable place to live and work.”

The Change

The campaign has successfully seen ZERO Carbon Guildford volunteers coming together to champion 12 different projects that have measurably improved Guildford. They have given over 3,000 free home energy surveys to Surrey residents; have saved over 16 tonnes of food from going to waste in the Community Fridge; run regular mending circles and growing workshops to teach new skills; run a Sustainable Business Network to support SME’s achieve their carbon cutting goals; run a Library of Things that sees over 50 rentals per week, and so much more. Community cohesion is what makes the progress of environmental action in Guildford so successful, and ZERO Carbon Guildford volunteers have worked hard to make that happen through effective engagement.

The Future

Zero Carbon Guildford will continue to employ the engagement strategy due to its proven success. They now also train up other climate and environment groups so they too can have similar success in their areas.
