Community Organising

Community organising is an incredibly powerful way of making sure that you can achieve change at a local level. It combines effective leadership with empowering and building lasting communities of change. Communities that are then self-led. To be an organiser, you have to learn to let go of and share your power.

The aim of this three-hour online workshop is for participants to develop their understanding of how to work in communities, bringing people together on a local basis to achieve a common goal. This workshop will discuss how to develop community bonds, ensure people have the confidence to act and the tools to achieve their aims.

This workshop will be led by an experienced community organiser.

Participants will:

  • Understand the principles of community organisation and how to apply them in practise
  • Look at the tools others have used successfully to achieve change
  • Hear about best practice and lessons from experienced community organisers.

Who is this workshop for?

  • New community organisers seeking to understand best practice and how to share power and retain support.
  • Those interested in the theory and practice of hyper-local organising.
  • Those seeking to initiate organising and campaigning at a community level.

This workshop will be lead by Stephanie Wong, Director of Act Build Change. Stephanie is a community organiser and coach and has won with many others, on issues from citizenship for young people, political elections, disability justice, living wages and housing. She spends most of her time thinking about how we support larger organisations and institutions to develop leadership and organising across the ecosystem to influence lasting transformative change.
