The Care Experienced Movement (CXM)

@CareExpMovement

“Care is Political, Care is for Life, Care is a Movement”

The Campaign

“Fundamentally we are Care Experienced Activists.”

CXM is a growing movement led by Care Experienced Activists, representing diverse backgrounds within the care system. They don’t limit the experience of care, but have a broad, more inclusive definition. They believe you are care experienced for life — there is no age limit on being care experienced.

Their aim is to advocate for positive policy change and provide support, alongside a platform for the care experienced community. They believe the Care Experienced community has not yet had its movement to push for real change and one that truly supports each other in doing so. Most importantly they believe the movement to be one that is led truly by those who have lived experience of care.

We are thrilled to see our movement recognised as the bold campaigners we aim to be! Too often, others speak on our behalf, but acknowledging the power of our lived experiences is truly heartening. Thank you for shortlisting us—it’s a step forward in our journey to amplify our voices and advocate for ourselves. We are so proud of what we’ve achieved this last year. We’ve done so much and it’s honestly just the beginning…”

The Change

The Care Experienced Movement is leading the charge in changing how people see and back people who are Care Experienced. By putting Care Experienced people front and centre, CXM is reframing what it means to be a Care Experienced activist.

CXM gives the Care Experienced community a platform to speak up, be valued, and be respected, and one that doesn’t take them for granted. They have begun to create a platform that supports Care Experienced People to speak for themselves directly, over it being done for them.

CXM also pushes for the rights of every Care Experienced person. They are taking on unfair systems and pushing for policy changes that address what this community needs and wants. By making their voices louder, CXM is making sure that decision-makers pay attention to what Care Experienced people need and want. This includes working with key organisations that work in these spaces and with Care Experienced people. Change happens collectively, not separately.

Overall, CXM isn’t just pushing for system and systemic change — but we are also making sure that Care Experienced people get more empathy, support, and recognition, paving the way for a fairer society for everyone.

The Future

CXM is paving the way for Care Experienced individuals to make system and systemic change. This is with bold initiatives like their current membership development, their inaugural Care Experienced Rally in 2025, and ongoing consultation/advocacy for policy change. They will continue to amplify voices, challenge stigma, and shape a more inclusive society for all Care Experienced People.

Together, they’re rewriting the narrative and championing the rights of all care experienced people.

Who else was involved?

“We are unbelievably thankful for the allies that have supported us in the development and growth of CXM in the last year. This includes (but is not limited to) TACT, Children England, The Good Law Project and all of our supportive funders. Without them we would not have been able to get to the stage CXM is currently at. We look forward to continuing to work with them to keep growing CXM even more.”
